Benjamin Nkaka – Succeeding Despite Non-Linear Career Growth (#7)

Benjamin Nkaka is the Head of Bancassurance Business at NBC Bank with over 12 years of experience in marketing, insurance, sales, and strategy. He has grown the insurance business at NBC and made it visible and profitable. He believes that Insurance can transform lives and reduce poverty. Benjamin Joined NBC from TTCL, where he was the key driver in the company’s transformation from CDMA technology to GSM. He was behind the go-to-market plan that included the transformation of the corporate identity and brand positioning. Benjamin holds an MBA from Mzumbe University. He is now finalizing his thesis for his second Masters of Science in Insurance and Actuarial Science from the Institute of Finance Management. He is also a student at Alto University and Uongozi Institute pursuing a postgraduate diploma in leadership. He is also a member of Rotary Club Oysterbay. Benjamin is a husband and a father of three children, and he loves barbequing

Today, Benjamin joins me to share his story and how he fell in love with the insurance business. He shares what is most important to him about his job and he explains how he thinks we can create a better tomorrow. He touches on overcoming obstacles and makes a distinction between obstacles you can control and obstacles you can’t. He notes the importance of being mindful of the future. He talks about what leadership really means and what a big responsibility it is. He shares his input on getting young people to start thinking like leaders and he notes the importance of avoiding conflicts of interest.
