Get up and Shape up (#11)

Have you ever had a child? Remember your first time holding your child in your arms and everything that ran through your head and heart: joy, excitement, nervousness at the weight of the responsibility, relief, wonder that you got so lucky to hold it, and so much more.

Today, I talk about the ways in which waking up to a new day is a similar experience–or, it should be. I talk about the importance of cherishing and appreciating each new day like you cherish and appreciate a new baby. I note that no one wishes anything but the best for a new child, and I ask why we don’t have the same positive hope in the unknown future. I talk about the importance of enjoying each moment, just as you do with a new baby. Finally, I note the importance of an attitude of gratitude.

“You win no points by being a good parent, just like you win no points for seizing the day with positivity. But wouldn’t you say it beats the alternative?”
