Her experience includes the application of key international frameworks, multi-stakeholders, and civil society initiatives. Today, Ruth joins me to talk about the power of attitude and adaptability. She breaks down these terms and shares the story of how she discovered their power. She talks about the importance of creating spaces for justice and discusses how her mindset has changed over the course of her career. We talk about the importance of endurance, and she shares how her faith acts as her support system. She notes the importance of being realistic, flexible, compassionate, and empathetic. She discusses the need to give people grace, and she explains why it’s more important to be intentional about trying than it is to succeed every single time. She notes the importance of considering other people’s wants as well as your own, and she talks about how and how not to express a belief, even when you know yourself to be right.

“At the worst times…I sought value in myself through the eyes of God, because despite the fact that I’m unworthy and I’m a sinner, He thinks I’m worthy. And therefore, if that’s my benchmark, then nothing can touch me. Not even my own insecurity.”

– Ruth Shah-Wigley

“You have to give people grace. It’s not always easy, and I’m not saying that I always do that without moaning and groaning under my breath–because I do. But what’s paramount for me is that I remember; I am intentional.”
