Fred Mwita: Behaviours Needed to Thrive in a Crisis (#41)

Fred Mwita is a results-driven corporate strategist who possesses a unique crossover profile, having operated the C-level Suite in various industries such as FMCG, mining, healthcare, banking, and ICT, and with over two decades of hands-on experience, having worked with large multinationals such as Vodacom, Coca Cola, Citi Bank, Diageo, Placer Dome, and now Umeme Uganda Limited. During the past years, he has been at the heart of the digital transformational wave that is reshaping digital consumer behaviors, especially in the African and Subsaharan markets.

Today, Fred joins me to discuss leadership in challenging times. We talk about the task of overseeing the digital transformation of your company and seeing your team through the COVID era–or even through the December-January period, which can have its effects on professional and personal lives. He shares his definition of a crisis, noting the term’s flexibility and sharing the four key things that leaders tend to forget in a crisis. We discuss the need for quick and confident decision-making, noting that it’s better to make mistakes than to avoid making decisions. He also expounds on the need for a culture of accountability.

“Think about growth, rise above the occasion, struggle within the occasion, and really show people that, indeed, a post-crisis world is very, very, important.”
