Lina Ratansi – Integrity is the ultimate leadership perk!

Traditionally values were personally held by an employee thus were practiced as such. But in this way, organizational culture remains a summation of the average of personal values. But to build sustainable performance there must be agreed upon parameters that everyone embraces in order to grow team spirit and curate proper standards from which to operate. Think of the chaos that can arise from everyone doing what is right in their own eyes, instead of a common law set fairly for the benefit of all.

The Numbers Don’t Lie:

  • 42% of employees don’t understand or even know what their company’s vision, mission or values actually are.
  • 25% of employees feel like they can’t trust their employer.
  • 46% of employees are looking elsewhere due to their current employer’s lack of transparency.
  • 50% of employees feel like they’re not getting all the information and facts needed to be successful in their roles.
  • Organizations with low engagement show 18% less productivity, 16% less profitability and 37% less job growth.

Now is the time to create a culture of integrity. What does integrity mean? Integrity comes from the Latin “integer” meaning whole and complete. The Business Dictionary defines integrity as a “strict adherence to a moral code, reflected in transparent honesty and complete harmony in what one thinks, says and does.” Without proper values, without integrity one will not get too far in this business world.

A good friend, Lina Ratansi, the Group Chief Executive of RSM Eastern Africa, summarises this beautifully:

“Sometimes [integrity] is very difficult from a financial perspective, but in the long run, it pays.”

This is an excerpt from our podcast episode titled No Integrity No Glory where we discussed the importance of your mission, vision, and values especially the importance of integrity and why she sees it as a core value and not a nice fringe benefit:

  • The Why behind Lina’s work
  • The importance of integrity in leadership
  • Lina’s definition of integrity
  • What Lina looks for in a potential hire
  • Coworker relationships
  • The Triple F of Leadership
  • The importance of passion in your work

When leading a team according to Lina, have passion for what you do, don’t do it just for the money and set clear expectations.
